What’s a Tarpon and Why are So Many SFW Communities Named For It?
From Tarpon Bay to Tarpon Village, there are several communities in Southwest Florida with similar names. Each, however, is unique and special in its own specific way.
Take, for example, Tarpon Bay, which is a gated community of condos, coach homes, and villas in North Naples. In all, there are roughly 350 residential options to choose from, with floorplans typically ranging from around 1,300 to 2,100 square feet of living space. Shared amenities in Tarpon Bay include a lakefront clubhouse with a fitness center and aerobics studio, as well as basketball and tennis, a swimming pool, and a playground.
Residents may also join the Tarpon Cove Yacht and Racquet Club. The private Tarpon Cove club offers its members Har-Tru tennis courts and bocce ball, along with a swimming pool and Tiki bar. In addition, the club provides some on-site dining options, and direct access to kayaking, paddleboarding, sunbathing, fishing, and more at Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park.
There’s also the option of Tarpon Village, which is an established condo community for those 55+ on the Isles of Capri. The condos typically range from one- to three-bedrooms, and around 700 to 2,300 square feet of living space. Shared amenities at Tarpon Village include a kayak/boat launch, a heated swimming pool and cabanas, plus boat docks for lease. Each residence comes with assigned, covered parking.
So, why so many communities with “Tarpon” in the name? It may be because these types of fish swim off the coast of Southwest Florida. Known for their impressive “jumping” skills, Tarpon fishing charters are common in this part of Florida too, especially during the spring and summer months. Just like a sighting of Tarpon out in the water is pretty spectacular, so are some of the residential communities and clubs in the Naples area with the word Tarpon in their name.
