The popular Tiburón Black Course is now open, following a seven month long renovation project. That project involved renovating the bunkers, turf and greens, plus sprucing up the property’s irrigation system.
Led by the Tiburón Golf Club and the Greg Norman Golf Course Design Team, crews reconfigured the Black Course to make for more strategic options, while also re-grassing the course. The greens now offer TifEagle Bermuda grass while the approaches and green surrounds display Celebration Bermuda grass. In addition, crews also added family tees for those with children to better enjoy the course, now making for a half-dozen tee options.
The same design team used for the Black Course renovation project similarly renovated the Tiburón Gold Course a couple of years ago. As part of that project, crews reconstructed some of the course’s bunkers, replacing the original stacked sod wall bunkers with a synthetic sod wall system.
That addition makes the Gold Course unique, as the bunkers at the Black Course were lowered, making for a more gradual pitch and distinctive look. Last fall some feared the Black Course reopening would be delayed following the destruction left by Hurricane Irma, but crews confirm it only pushed back the opening by a couple of days.
First opened to golfers in 2001, the Black Course and Gold Course join together to form the Tiburón Golf Course of Naples, ranked in the past as one of Florida’s top golf facilities. The 18-hole, Greg Norman-designed golf courses play host to both the PGA Tour QBE Shootout and the LPGA CME Group Tour Championship.
Located within The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, the Tiburón Golf Club in Naples also features a Golf Shop, along with an array of extra amenities, from on-site dining to a clubhouse. As well, you’ll also find the Ritz-Carlton’s Har-Tru tennis courts, a swimming pool and spa, plus a fitness center overlooking the golf Course.
