New Park Coming to Golden Gate
A new park is headed to Gold Gate Estates in Naples. Phase one of the new Big Corkscrew Island Regional Park is slated to open up later this summer.
The large, multi-million-dollar park was approved by local leaders about five years ago. The park is going in next door to the Collier County Fairgrounds.
The first phase of the community park includes sports, outdoor fitness and recreational options. The fitness pavilion will offer outdoor exercise stations, plus users will be able to install a smart phone app that helps them track their fitness progress.
The first phase also brings in four multipurpose fields. They’re located close to two baseball/softball fields and an off-leash dog park.
The fitness pavilion sits in front of the park’s planned aquatic center. This is where visitors will eventually be able to use waterslides, a lap pool, a family pool and a wading pool. There will also be an aquatic center building for things like swim lessons, aqua cycling and water aerobics.
The park will additionally bring in a half-dozen pickleball courts, two tennis courts and two basketball courts. A community center will offer space for meetings, programs, offices and a daycare.
In addition, the park plans for an event lawn with a stage and a concession building. A large playground will feature zip lines, climbing stations, tire swings and slides, among other things. It even promises solar-powered charging stations and a castle for the kids to explore.
In addition, plans call for nine picnic pavilions and a multi-use path for walking, jogging and biking that stretches around the perimeter of the Golden Gate Estates park. The second phase of the park should kick off sometime next fall.
It promises to bring in more outdoor fitness stations, walking paths, play areas and ball diamonds. In addition, plans call for additional picnic pavilions and concessions. A large lake will eventually offer a canoe and kayak launch.
