Naples Named Top Snowbird Destination

There’s no disputing the fact that Florida is popular with seasonal residents, so much so that the City of Naples was just named a top destination for snowbirds. The designation comes from the website, StorageCafe.com.

It recently came out when what it considers the “Best Destinations for Snowbirds”, and it’s probably not surprising that the majority of the top 10 are all in the State of Florida. When broadened out to the top 100, nearly half of all cities to make the list are in Florida.

Naples is number four. Venice, Florida was at the very top of the list this year, followed by Vero Beach and Fort Pierce. In fifth place was Lake Wales. Tarpon Springs came in at number eight, followed by Fort Myers and Clermont. A city in Texas and one in Arizona also made the top 10.

To come up with its list, StorageCafe.com considered affordability, as well as lifestyle. Analysts looked at locations with tolerable weather conditions, golf courses, nearby beaches, and parks.

In addition, they looked for places with seasonal housing and rentals available, as well as restaurants, healthcare, and safety. As for Naples, analysts pointed out it has the highest share of vacant housing for seasonal use.

Naples was also tops for golf courses. The website pointed out its local museums and art galleries, its high-end shops, and its performing arts venues, too. Naples did not fare as well in terms of affordability.

While the term snowbird is commonly tied to baby boomers who flee colder states and even Canada during the winter months, StorageCafe says more and more young professionals are joining the mix. The website credits that to the high number of people who started working from home during the pandemic, and still do.

Similar to StorageCafe.com, Architectural Digest recently came out with its own list, this time ranking “The Top Hidden Gem Cities for Snowbirds”. Naples was second. Only New Orleans ranked higher. In this study, cities were ranked based on housing and lodging availability, winter weather conditions, home sale prices, and Yelp ratings.
