Naples Named Top Holiday Town

Naples ranks a merry #5 in the 2014 Travel + Leisure magazine’s annual list of “Best American Towns for the Holidays.” With more sand than snow, Naples scored wildly high for its luxury department stores, cool boutiques, noteworthy fine restaurants, Christmas light displays, parades, and holiday concerts to join a top spot on the rankings for 2014.
While Naples is widely known for its warm weather and beaches, Travel + Leisure magazine said the festive ambiance of Naples, including the Third Street South official Christmas tree, evening “snow” showers, and opulent window displays in the Old Naples Historic District, all point to the holidays in Naples are about a lot more than retail. Naples enjoys holiday concerts on Fifth Avenue’s South’s Sugden Plaza---TUBA Christmas---featuring brass tubas and baritones, among many holiday outdoor gatherings for residents and visitors.
This month, downtown chic 5th Avenue South has a calendar full of joyful holiday events, like fine arts shows, Gulfshore Playhouse’s “A Christmas Carol,” live music and a Christmas Boat Parade. Capturing the celebratory mood, the city of Naples adorns its streets with twinkling lights, as well as free family events at the “Christmas in the Park” in Centennial Park. The Historic homes and the gardens of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford in nearby Fort Myers are decorated with lights, decorations, and their inventions.
