Mediterra to Invest $14 M in Course Improvements
The luxury golf and beach club community, Mediterra, in Naples, Florida, is embarking on more than $14 million in improvements to their two championship golf courses. The 1700 acre community offers single family estates and luxury villas in six different subdivisions. World-class amenities, including two Fazio-designed championship golf courses, a private Beach Club and pool, as well as various dining options, are at the heart of the community's appeal. The Board of Governors recently approved the changes and associated assessments with the full support of the members who want to maintain the resort-quality services as well as preserve housing values. Carl Dill, president of the Mediterra Board of Governors, announced the changes, noting the improvements will assure that the community stays competitive while maintaining the area's "unique lifestyle."
The improvements include:
- Total renovation of The Club on Mediterra's North Course, starting with the installation of a new irrigation system
- Improvements to the driving range on the North Course
- Continued renovations to the South Course, including the installation of more eco-friendly platinum paspalum grass that enhances "playability" as well as overall durability of the course
- Future expansion of The Sports Club and The Wellness Center to offer additional services and equipment. Today, the Sports Club includes a pool, spa services, tennis facilities, bocce courts, and fitness center.
Originally set to begin construction in 2016, the Board is accelerating the project to reduce costs while addressing the growing membership with expected completion in late 2016. Usage of The Sports Club is up by more than 50 percent in the last year of some facilities. Membership in Mediterra is limited to 225 memberships per 18 holes of golf to ensure tee availability. Currently the waiting time for a golf membership is one year but owners who purchase a new construction residence will be able to take advantage of membership immediately.
The widely acclaimed community is an eight-time winner of the Collier Building Industry Association's Sand Dollar Award for Community of the Year and has been consistently ranked as one of the "Top Retirement Destinations" in the world.
