Clubhouse Repairs Underway in Port Royal

Less than one year after the widespread damage and devastation of Hurricane Ian, Port Royal in Naples is pushing ahead with plans to rebuild its waterfront clubhouse. The Port Royal Club’s Building Committee recently selected a project management firm to lead the process, which is tasked with helping to select contractors and consultants in the near future.

Originally established in the late 1950s, the Port Royal Club was seriously damaged by the hurricane last September, leaving it unusable. Late last year, the Naples City Council provided the club with an exception, allowing it to operate out of temporary structures moving forward, in order to still be able to serve its members.

This meant bringing in some temporary tents and trailers for operations. The club also had to find some offsite venues and activities to accommodate its members until a new clubhouse could be redesigned and rebuilt.

The members-only beach club is located in Downtown Naples. Members must own property in the Port Royal neighborhood to gain membership, where the average home price is commonly well upwards of $10 million.

In the past, the club has included its own private beach, a swimming pool and spa, some dining areas, tennis facilities, and fitness facilities. Port Royal is considered to be one of the nation’s most exclusive and prestigious communities, and the club offers residents a place to gather and socialize with neighbors.

While a price to complete the new Port Royal Club hasn’t been disclosed, the project has been described in the past as a massive rebuild. The same firm that’s leading the rebuilding project for Port Royal Club is also working on redeveloping Naples Beach Club. Hurricane Ian caused widespread flooding last year when it hit the Florida coast, leaving extensive damage in Port Royal and other communities in its wake.
