More About Naples Urban Lifestyle Developments

Naples Shopping

The hub of Naples activity centers around Fifth Avenue and the area known as Old Naples around Third Street South. Both blocks are within easy walking distance of each other with the added bonus of delivering pedestrians to the beach at the end of the western corridor. Fifth Avenue is Naple’s "Main Street "with a mix of businesses selling high-end clothing, jewelry, and home decor nestled between the Fifth Avenue Inn and other local businesses. Tropical flowers add a pop of color interspersed with courtyards and mature landscaping for a European-inspired backdrop while perusing the options. Just blocks away, Third Street South maintains its 1930s-era Florida architecture, combining luxury clothing emporiums with art galleries and small boutiques that can be a boon for bargain hunters. Third Street South is the birthplace of Naples and a short distance from the iconic Naples Pier. With its close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, visitors can still amble by some of Naple’s original beach cottages as well as the grander mansions that have sprung up in later years. Restaurants and cafes are abundant, making it easy to grab a salad, refreshing drink or scoop of gelato on the way to the Saturday morning farmers market. Antiquing is another popular pastime with the epicenter of the antique district at Central Avenue and 10th Street. Dozens of antique and consignment shops offer everything from period antiques to heirloom jewelry, glassware, paintings, and vintage pieces from a variety of eras.

Naples Beaches

While Naples Pier is the focal point of Naples Beach, anyone can walk westward from the Downtown area and end up at the Gulf of Mexico with its comforting surf and pristine sands. The sidewalk ends at a small parking lot where a short boardwalk leads directly to the sea. It’s not uncommon to see sunbathers, runners, and a business people in more formal clothes taking a break from work to enjoy the sun and sand.

Naples Pier

One of the most photographed areas in Naples, the Pier not only provides beach access and superior fishing but is also a historic site. Located just down the street from Palm Cottage, Naples’ first house constructed in the late 1890s, the Naples Pier is even older. Built in 1888 at the end of 12th Avenue South, the Pier served as an essential means of developing Naples as all building materials and supplies arrived by boat and the pier was the only way to deliver the goods on land. Today the Pier serves as a popular gathering place to enjoy the sun, beach, and even catch a glimpse of playful dolphins as they make their way along the shore.

Naples Fine Dining

While Naples is often compared to Rodeo Drive and Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue because of its cluster of high-end shopping in just a few concentrated blocks, the main draw for visitors is the renowned restaurant scene. The majority of restaurants and pubs offer outdoor dining and cocktails with patios and tables expanding out to the sidewalk, ideal for people-watching and enjoying a drink under the stars on a warm night. While culinary creations range from fresh seafood, grass-fed beef, and other locally sourced plates, the ambiance is always warm and welcoming. Fifth Avenue plays host to live music and festivals throughout the year, including the The Grape Escape Wine and Food Festival in November and a tree-lighting and Christmas Walk during the holiday season.

Naples Arts

Visitors are often surprised to discover how cosmopolitan Naples is in carving out a niche for its cultural offerings and the performing arts. Tucked away between the shopping districts at Broad Street South and Third Street South, Gallery Row features more than 100 art galleries. Collections range from historic and contemporary works from notable international and American artists. The Naples Art Association at the Von Liebig Art Center in Downtown is an elegant showcase for contemporary visual arts, holding festivals and exhibitions throughout the year. Theater is just as important to tourism as the world class shopping and fine dining. The Philharmonic Center for the Arts, located in the northern part of the city, offers live performances in dance, theater and classical and pop music. Framed by two sculpture gardens, the Philharmonic Center Cultural Complex boasts a 1,425-seat theater as well as the Baker Museum. The Grammy-nominated Naples Philharmonic Orchestra performs regularly at the Center with such musical greats as Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli. The Naples Players’ Sugden Community Theatre on 5th Avenue South has celebrated almost 70 seasons of performances, programs and classes that continue to help define the culture and arts scene in Naples.

Naples Fitness

The Naples Community Hospital houses The Briggs Wellness Center, a state-of-the-art fitness facility at the downtown Naples campus. While memberships are available, residents and visitors can also purchase guest passes or pay per class. The facility includes locker rooms, a sauna, and whirlpool as well as the latest in cardio and stretch machines. Massage services provide a balm to tired muscles after a workout and certified trainers are available to perform initial fitness assessments as well as develop customized exercise and nutrition programs for reaching fitness goals. The Olympic-size outdoor pool is somewhat of a novelty in Southwest Florida.
